About the Art

Mary’s Pressed Flower Designs

Botanical Encaustics, a favorite medium for Mary, is a process using layers of melted bees wax and oh so many flowers and quite a bit of imagination. Pressed Flower Artwork also lets the imagination soar. The finished design is sealed to help preserve and protect the flowers. Mary has a keen eye for detail and all her designs show it. Enjoy!

About the Artist

Mary grew up in England with flowers in abundance. Even with a war raging, the flowers did not seem to notice. They happily bloomed and she was taught at a very young age to press them in books and make simple cards and pictures.

She opened her first studio in Contoocook, New Hampshire in 1981 where she sold a variety of handcrafted items. A move to Maine forced her to close her studio but she continued to attend art and craft fairs and sell her art, gift items and lampshades to gift shops in the local area.

Years of experience in the art of pressed flowers has made her product second-to-none. She has a keen eye for detail and her designs show it Mary is currently president of The Sanford Art Association and member of Maine Women in the Arts and past president and longtime member of the Southern Maine Garden Club.
